The songwriters' round format was made popular in the legendary Blue Bird Café in Nashville. It has subsequently spread throughout the world as a popular means of allowing local songwriters and performers showcase their talents.
The idea behind the songwriters' round is simple: a number of performers take turns to perform a song one after the other. Performers often chat a little about their songs before playing. The difference between this the songwriters round and an average gig is the relaxed atmosphere more reminiscent of a living room rather than a concert venue.
This is the 5th installment of the Songwriters' Round in Kuching and we are pleased to present to you an amazing lineup like no other:
Alex Wong of SingleTrackMind
Singletrackmind, otherwise known as Alex Wong, otherwise known as the singing CEO, is a man's man. After his album in 2003, No Reason, Singletrackmind immediately slung it out at the circuits. Within a year, he had performed all around Malaysia, as well as Hong Kong, Beijing, Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Bali. After picking up an AIM nomination, his second album Visual Disturbance sees Wong finally discovering "the STM sound", and he is slated to open for INXS's Stadium Negara concert on 18th August. Hear the man's man bare his soul and bleed through his guitars for you @ MOJO
Owen Nicholas
Once more in lil' Kuching, he will stun us with his amazing vocals n flair as an outstanding performer. His music has matured along the years as we have grown to love his style of playing. Expect nothing short from Owen as he enthralls us with his new songs which is said to be folkier than previous and still as brooding as ever.
Monique
Although she is a relative unknown in the local music scenes, she has performed for 2 bands "Sunburn" n "Dented" in Kuching. For which she has been the principal songwriter for both bands. She will be accompanied by Cheryl Michael, Silas Michael's sister of Evenstarr. Their music is said to be dark and moody yet catchy and melodic, probably best heard at night. - Lets keep this a mystery, cause we are always more than happy to have a female performer right here at MOJO.
There is an open mike session for anyone else interested to come and play. Expect a very relax and comfortable setting to bare your soul at MOJO.
